Mimi G Jeans in Simpli by Ti Stretch Denim

This is my most favorite jeans I have made thus far! It is Simplicity 8222 pattern by designer Mimi G. It comes with a quilted bomber jacket pattern as well that I will make some day.  What makes this my favorite is the stretch denim I used by Simpli by Ti! The denim has 25% horizontal stretch and is mid weight. It is very comfortable to wear. The color is much more vibrant in person than is on the Simpli by Ti sample photo!  The color in my photos is an accurate representation. It is the true denim color. 


I like the fit of this pair. I achieved the fit by first making all the length adjustments I need. I'm only 5' tall so I needed to take out length from the inseam and also crotch depth. The jeans are high rise and hips are drafted to fit 9" below the waist. I removed .5". I had made this pattern before and the rise is too long on that pair. One of the biggest changes I made to the pattern was to make an elastic waistband and turning these into pull on pants. I just skipped the zipper fly and waistband steps and just sewed the front crotch shut, and added an elastic waistband in the end. 


I was mostly happy with the front except for the folds I'm getting on the side seams. I couldn't figure out why that was happening so I decided to leave it for now. It was good enough, right? I took photos of the front and back this morning and was horrified by what was going on in the back that wasn't apparent in the mirror. 

This pattern comes with 3 back options - slim, average, curvy. I used the slim back pattern. There were still a lot of wrinkles in the thigh area. I was very disappointed with how the back looked. I then figured out there was a bit too much fabric in the width and decided to take them in. Results below -

This is the front after the back adjustment was made. Notice how the fold on the side is gone! I am happy happy happy!


I think the fabric with 25% stretch is needed to achieve a skinny fit like this pair. Anything less would be constrictive. I've been wearing it all day and it does not tend to bag out after a day of wear. It is something I would use again for making a skinny pair of jeans! Monster Tour

Sewing by Ti - Monster Tour It's October and that means it is time to make your little ones (or big ones!) Halloween costumes! Growing up in India we did not celebrate Halloween so when I first moved to the US and was living in an apartment, I was amazed at all the dress up and trick or treating concept. I made sure to buy tons and tons of candy because we got so many kids coming to our doorstep. Love Notions Lyric Dress

Love Notions Lyric Dress The dress I've been dreaming of is here :) I've wanted a very simple, button-down dress ever since I made the Jessica dress ( blogged here ). Jessica dress is great, but I wanted a full bodice so I don't have to wear a strapless bra. Enter, Love Notions Lyric ! How lovely is this dress? Of course, I had to go with my hoarded mustard rayon challis. I use mustard for A-List patterns. Lyric is one of them. The pattern comes with an A-line skirt and gathered skirt. There are various sleeve options including a very cute bell sleeve. I made the sleeveless version which is finished with a bias tape. Pattern notes: Made my standard petite adjustment by taking out 1" from the bodice and 1" from the skirt. Took in the waist a little.
