Sahara dress by Bella Sunshine Designs

Sometimes you sew (or come across) a dress that makes you look 10 pounds thinner. THIS is that dress! Sahara dress has very figure flattering shape. I think circle skirts are more flattering anyway but something about this bodice is appropriately slimming as well. I normally rock my curves (and my rectangles) :-) but if a dress gives me an hourglass shape and makes me look thinner than I am, I will want to make a million!!

The dress is made for knit fabrics and comes in Ladies sizes 0-30 with Optional Bust Adjustment. The design features two different neckline options for the front and a low scoop back; sleeveless, short sleeves, 3/4 sleeves, and long sleeves with a fully lined bodice. The dress has a full circle skirt that is super flattering.  The design comes with three lengths; top length (hits at the hips), tunic length (which covers the bum) and dress length (hits just above the knees).

As is usual for me, I did my length adjustments. Reduced 2" from bodice front and back. I used size 8 bodice and size 12 skirt due to my waist measurements falling in that range. I absolutely love the fullness of the skirt. I made no other changes. Fabric used was an ITY knit from fabric.com that has been in my stash for quite some time!
The skirt is cut in a full circle so there is no side seam in the skirt. Instructions are provided for seams if your fabric won't fit or if you wanted to add pockets. Mine still had plenty of space left over though. I used 2 yards of the fabric.

Sahara by Bella Sunshine Designs

I chose to make a dress version but tunic would be so cute as well. I am planning at least 2 more of these dresses. I already wore this to work this week. I need more!

The bodice is lined and is finished with the burrito roll technique. It's really easy to do and provides nice and enclosed seams. Pattern also calls for finishing the armholes with clear elastic to make sure there is no gaping. I was bad tester and didn't do that but thankfully (small boobs) no gaping!

I also love the shape of the back neckline. Cute details like this are a win for me.

Basically Jalie blog tour

Basically Jalie Blog Tour - Day 2 (This post has been sponsored by Jalie Patterns. There is  a sewalong, rafflecopter, and amazing prizes to win so keep reading! )  Majority of what I wear are work/business casual outfits and hence that is majority of what I sew. I am always looking for cute woven tops to add to my rotation. I love making tunic tops especially now that I've learned to fit them. I never liked any store bought ill fitting and stiff feeling tops especially button-downs but now that I can make them and make them to fit, it is a whole different story! This blog-tour is for basics and I consider woven tops to be part of my daily basic wardrobe so that is what I made for this blog tour. This is the Rose blouse (Jalie 3881) in a woven crepe fabric I got recently from Sincerely Rylee. The fabric is gorgeous and so easy to work with.  I chose this top because of the bow. Let's be honest, we love blouses with bows! I have never been able to find a perf

Monster Tour

Sewing by Ti - Monster Tour It's October and that means it is time to make your little ones (or big ones!) Halloween costumes! Growing up in India we did not celebrate Halloween so when I first moved to the US and was living in an apartment, I was amazed at all the dress up and trick or treating concept. I made sure to buy tons and tons of candy because we got so many kids coming to our doorstep. While I didn't get into making costumes for me, I love making them for my kids :) My oldest is turning 14 tomorrow(already?!) and is no longer interested in Halloween and that made me a little sad. He says trick or treating is for little kids and I respect his choice in the matter. My 8 year old, however, wanted to dress up as a cat - a cute and cuddly one. She got one! She made an easy choice this year and was very involved in the designing of her costume. She is getting more and more interested in making her doll clothes and comes up with interesting shapes and experimen

Love Notions Lyric Dress

Love Notions Lyric Dress The dress I've been dreaming of is here :) I've wanted a very simple, button-down dress ever since I made the Jessica dress ( blogged here ). Jessica dress is great, but I wanted a full bodice so I don't have to wear a strapless bra. Enter, Love Notions Lyric ! How lovely is this dress? Of course, I had to go with my hoarded mustard rayon challis. I use mustard for A-List patterns. Lyric is one of them. The pattern comes with an A-line skirt and gathered skirt. There are various sleeve options including a very cute bell sleeve. I made the sleeveless version which is finished with a bias tape. Pattern notes: Made my standard petite adjustment by taking out 1" from the bodice and 1" from the skirt. Took in the waist a little. This was a test version and waist was adjusted slightly after this. I made a B cup bodice. I also did a .5" swayback adjustment to the back bodice. From a construction standpoint, I like tha
